March 10

we took a quick trip to Michigan this evening... more of that later :)

we spent all morning in orientation. all the pastors from the different sites were there so the students were able to meet up with them and get to know them a little.

for lunch we after lunch we were able to get a taste of Jack fruit. most people really didn't like it, but i didn't find it that bad. i think it taste a little like Mango. just a lot stringier.

we hung out in the lobby again (the only place with internet and the only place to congregate) editing sermons and writing emails. i have a feeling we will be spending most of our time here.
right behind the hotel there is a Taou temple. its a really neat place. nice and quiet. a great place to read in the shade as the breeze rushes by. in the court yard there are statues of the Chines zodiak. some of us took a picture with the current year, which happens to be the tiger, the year i was born :)

this evening we had the opportunity to do the worship at the Adventist boarding school, and the church there just happened to be named Pioneer Memorial, thus the trip to Michigan :) but it was a whole ton warmer then the one in the States. despite the glitches with the sound system it went really well. the kids there were very receptive and very warm. when we got there a bunch from our group went around and greeted all the kids.

we haven't been able to get out and see much of the town yet. the hotel is not exactly in the middle of town. the closest shopping place is half an hour walk down a busy road. so the ride this evening was the first i was able to see what this place is actually like. it reminds me a lot of Belize. lots of banana trees. most of the house are on stilts. most of the people speak enough English to get along. but its not as clean as Belize. i will get some pictures next time we go out.

tomorrow the students will get to go to their sites and make sure all their equipment works. should be exciting.

until next time...
