Happy Sabbath!!!
Today I went with Michael and Cara. The road wasn’t near as bad as the one yesterday. It was narrow and windy, but paved all the way. We pulled up next to a bunch of other vehicles and parked. And then we headed across the river on a suspension bridge! It was great. There are no cars in the village, only trails leading everywhere. The church is up on a little knoll overlooking the soccer field. There is also a pond where they raise fish for the village. Michael preached for church. Afterward we had an awesome potluck! I love the food here.
I got out my camera to take some pictures and found out, much to my dismay, that I had left my memory card in my computer :( thankfully we went back to the hotel for the afternoon and then went back that evening for the second meeting.
The evening meeting was a lot of fun. There were some kids hanging around so I started playing with them. I got the laser pointer from the projector and pointed it on the ground. They tried to stomp on it. So I put in on one of their feet, and they stomped on it! Then I put in on one boy’s foot and he stomped on his own foot….. Three separate times!
Cara preached a great sermon, and then we got out our flash lights and crossed the bridge and drove home.
So, I had an absolutely awesome Sabbath. I really enjoy being here and experiencing all the diversity. At first I wasn’t able to see very many distinctions in the culture. It’s a big melting pot here. A lot of Muslims, and Filipinos, and Chinese and of course the all present Western influences. But the more I am able to travel around and meet different people the more I see how distinct and special they are. It’s really nice to be able to experience that.
