almost two full weeks finished! we head home next Monday evening. as much fun as it is here the island is starting to get a little small. we have been all the way to one end of the road and almost to the other end, and most everything in between. it sure is pretty but i could never, ever live here :)
we finally went back to our normal schedule, worship at 7:15 and load by 8:15 am.
the place we were filming at is some sort of garden type place. it was quite large and had a few ponds that had lots of fish. there were chickens, ducks, peacocks and all sorts of other birds. it was very manicured, but pretty. there was one duck that was very friendly and was getting in the shots :) he was an awesome fellow. he would just walk right up to us. the peacocks were showing off their feathers. and there were little chicks every where.
we did one orchestra song before lunch, then one orchestra song and two mixed chores songs after. since half the students were not needed for the last two songs many of us were able to head out early. my group went to a waterfall with a rope swing. it was about 20 or so feet high so i took me a while before i went off it:) i dont like high places. so i stood at the top and retrieved the rope for everyone else. we had a great time for about an hour and then headed home.
a few funny things and facts about the island:
i have seen two California license plates.
the coast line is only 111 Miles.
there are chickens running loose everywhere. and i mean everywhere.
gas is 4.25 a Gal. avg.
the most dangerous things on the island are wild boars and centipedes. boar hunting is a big thing.
there are only two snakes on the island; a sea snake and a blind worm-like snake.
one of the wettest places in the world in on the island; avg. 430 inches a year.
there are two Adventist churches, but i have seen three JW churches.
i have heard of people on the West side who haven't been to the North side in 10 to 15 years! and its only about a two hour drive.
i have been able to see from a single location speed limit signs that read like this: 50 mph, reduce speed 45 mph, 45 mph, reduce speed 35 mph, 35 mph, intersection, 35 mph, 50 mph. ( i hope that all makes since) they are placed very close together. very concerned with safety :)
the top speed is 50 mph.
they don't have any larger roads then a two lane highway.
the population is about 60,000.
there is a species of bird that live no where else in the world but here.
last Thursday we saw a guy out past the waves paddling his surf board. it turns out he is the guy who invented tow surfing. that is where a jet ski pulls a surfer into a big wave so that he can catch it.
just some random things that i thought you might find interesting.
our girl's dean is sick right now. she has a fever. please pray for her.
for some reason some days i can post pictures and some days it doesn't work. i guess i will have to try tomorrow.
